IP telephony in local area networks claims a new demand of “quality of service” (QoS) and supplying the telephones with power. For this purpose L2/L3-PoE-switches of ZyXEL and Hewlett Packard offer a perfect solution, which can prioritize voice- and data-application, as well as supplying the IP telephones with power over Ethernet cable, so that further power sockets are not required, when changing to IP telephony. Moreover they are equipped with extremely silent fans, which make it possible to run the switches inside of an office. In times of “Green IT” and increasing environmental awareness, these PoE switches, when utilizing a central management, e.g. DATUS IP-PBX, offer the possibility to power-down IP telephones when the user is not at present, and therefore save power. |
